Is my car donation made in New York tax deductible?

Vehicles donated on this website will benefit Family Care Foundation an IRS registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. You will also be provided with all paperwork necessary in order to properly claim a tax deduction.

What paperwork do I need to donate my vehicle in New York?

In most cases we need the title to the vehicle. But, if you do not have title papers you can either apply for a replacement title, or if your vehicle is at least eight model years old and worth less then $1250, you can fill out form MV35. Please visit the New York DMV web site to obtain the necessary forms before donating.

How do I release the liability of my donated vehicle in New York?

To release liability of your donated vehicle the state of New York state requires that you remove your vehicles license plates and turn them in at your local DMV in order to cancel the registration. 

This is required before you can cancel your insurance. Failure to do so can result in continued billing by your insurance company until you do turn them in. For additional information, please refer to the New York DMV web site.
